The Vampire is more about taking the 68k Amiga to the "extreme", while the MiST is a faithful recreation of the original hardware (in addition, it has an amazing C64 core available which I use almost as much as the Amiga core). I might pick up a Vampire V4 standalone in the future, but it wouldn't replace my MiST since they would fill different roles. If you want a "real" A1200, they are not that difficult to find on online auction sites etc. The main advantage of MiST and other FPGA's is that you don't have to rely on old, dying electronics. It looks like basically a new motherboard, but using scavenged old MOS/CSG chips. Would I be better off waiting for an Amiga reloaded? This isn't a huge issue for me, although it would have been nice to have. The Atari core does support one particular model of USB Ethernet adapters, but this has not been implemented on the Amiga core (at least not yet). Will it work with a USB Ethernet adapter? It does struggle with texture mapped games like AB3D II, Nemac IV etc., but then again, so does a "real" '030 Amiga. So instead of the crazy Workbench configurations that are possible on emulation, like AmiKit X ( ), the MiST limitations mean the Workbench installation is much more similar to what I was running on my own A1200 in the mid 90's (68030 40 MHz and 18 MB RAM): Image In terms of compatibility, almost every single WHDLoad game I've tried has worked just fine. In terms of performance, it performs like a 30 - 0 accelerated A1200 by most benchmarks, and has 24 MB of RAM. There's no RTG (so no high-res, true color modes etc.). Being able to use the original joystick I used with my C64 and Amiga also helps: Image You have many of the same limitations as a real A1200, which contributes to the "authenticity".

It feels very authentic, partially because it's an FPGA recreation, but mostly because you have a dedicated box rather than simply running something like Amiga Forever on a Windows PC. What is the system like compared to a real A1200?

I've never owned an Amiga before, but I'm attracted to the platform at least as a game system.
